Festival Time
Glad for the opportunity to be born and grew up in NOLA. Our culture is so rich with diversity, music, food, and culture. There isn't one day the city is dull. Now that we have left Lent Season, it is Festival time. The festivals here are one huge cultured party. During the week and on the weekends you can find a festival this time of year. Its status as a world-famous tourist destination is due in part to its architecture, music, cuisine, its annual Mardi Gras, and other celebrations and festivals.[1] Can you believe Louisiana has over 400 Festivals each year? That is a lot of Cajun, Creole, Soul and French indulgences to partake of.
The most popular is the Jazz Fest began in 1970. Jazz Fest is full of music, food, and culture. You can't go to Jazz Fest and leave in a bad mood. Not even if it is raining. Multiple stages with all kinds of music, Rock and Roll, Jazz, African, R and B, Pop, Gospel, and etc., it is here at the Jazz Fest. At the fest you will find ample food vendors serving everything from Alligator, Oysters, Snoballs, Waffles and Chicken, Gumbo, Poboys, and Seafood. Just about every beverage you need to satisfy your thirst and palate. Desserts baked and fried, sautéed all cultured in Louisiana and NOLA essence. You can purchase different items in an array of cultures. Jazz Fest is also Kid Friendly. Bring the family to enjoy the entire day or weekend.
French Quarter Festival is one you surely do not want to miss. One thing the festivals have in common is music, food, and culture. This year the French Quarter Festival started in 1984, will celebrate 30 years Anniversary. 21 stages throughout the French Quarter celebrate local music and represent every genre from traditional and contemporary jazz to R&B, New Orleans funk, Brass bands, Folk, gospel, Latin, Zydeco, Classical, Cabaret, and International.[2] The sound of the French Quarter Festival in itself is break taking. One huge party on many streets throughout the French Quarter; and beautiful to witness. This festival is sure to leave lasting recollections.
Festivals are popular and frequent in NOLA; however they are throughout the state of Louisiana. Some of us like to travel to the different parishes to dance, eat and support economically. Themed festivals range from a Strawberry Festival in Ponchatoula and Tomato Festival in Chalmette to the great Festival International in Lafayette; from the big Contraband Days Pirate Festival in Lake Charles to the Holiday Festival of Lights in Natchitoches. From the Red River Revel in Shreveport to the Catfish Festival in Washington.[3] One of the newest festivals is the Essence Festival. This festival once again is music, food, culture and many empowerment sessions with great speakers. This festival is held every first weekend in July.
We have two pages dedicated especially for Festivals. These festivals are local and statewide. Though all may not be listed, we give you the most popular festivals. Get your calendars ready for some of the best festivals you can attend.
